What’s a Widelux?
The Widelux.
A peculiar looking piece of mechanical ingenuity. Where there would normally be a barrel of a lens, it appears as though someone has fused a tower into the center of a camera body.
There is no shortage of variety when it comes to Paul’s film cameras, and one of the most interesting cameras in his collection has to be his Widelux. What makes this camera stand out is its ability to capture a wide, panoramic image that is similar to the view of what you would see in person with your own eyes. Most photos taken on on film are from a fixed point, and leave out the peripheral view we would have if we were to be there ourselves.
The Widelux is able to do this through a fully mechanical swing lens. When the shutter is released, the lens rotates on a horizontal arc, and produces images like the ones featured below.
It’s easy to see the uniqueness of these photos, and we are excited to see what images Paul captures in the future with the Widelux.
