Shooting with the helios 44

Paul is our resident gear head when it comes to anything camera related. Out of his growing collection of lenses, we have to say that the Helios 44 is one of the most interesting.

This fine piece of equipment has been quoted as, “a Russian made vintage lens which is so coveted and mystical that they modified it to fit modern movie cameras to film The Batman.”

Why is this lens so mystical…? Excellent question. Brenda asked the same thing, but it became apparent when she was able to sneak a peak at a screenshot of the footage Paul captured.

The Helios 44 is able to capture a small area of focus while placing a beautiful bokeh effect on the background. This creates an otherworldly and ethereal image that draws the eye in to the subject in the frame.
